Mr. John Willis Lee Artis, age 71 of 203 North College St., Apt. 4, Kenly, NC.., passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2012.

John W L Artis was the son of the late Lester Artis and Elvie Bradberry.

A celebration of his life will be held 2:00pm Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 726 Tarboro St. SW., Wilson, NC. Eldress Anne Bradberry will officiate. Interment will follow at Hamilton Burial Garden, Lane St. Ext. Wilson, NC.

Precious memories are cherished by his lovingly devoted wife: Mrs. Ethel Artis of Kenly, NC; two sons: Charles Gregory Artis of Saluda, VA, and John Artis, Jr., of Hampton, VA; four step-daughters: Catina Burgess, Matlida Godwin, Veronica Richardson and Joann Kornegay (Alexander) all of Kenly, NC; nine grandchildren, including a special granddaughter: Myeshia "Rat" Atkinson and grandson: Damien "Double D" Best; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Charles Bradberry (Annie) of Kenly, NC, Charles Howard and William Bradberry (Pam) of Wilson, NC; Two sisters: Betty Jean Graham of Bailey, NC, and Molly Bradberry of Middlesex, NC; Mother-in-law: Mrs. Margaret Howell of Kenly, NC; seven-sisters-in-law: Patricia Frazier, Essie Williams (Willie), Virginia Pierce (Harvey), Minister Margaret Williams, Minister Gilda Tyson, and Fonda Howell all of Kenly, NC, and Bobbie Smith (Carlton) of Goldsboro, NC; Three brothers-in-law: Carl Howell (Shonda) of Clayton, NC, George Howell (Minister Frances), and Edward Howell of Kenly, NC; Two aunts: Ossie Belle Waters and Mary Lee Dawson; one uncle: Willie "Slim" Dawson of Wilson, NC; a special nephew: Bobby Bradberry of Kenly, NC; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

A public viewing will take place Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 2-7 pm at Hamilton Funeral Chapel of Wilson. The family will receive friends at the residence where they will also assemble one hour prior to the funeral service in preparation of the funeral procession.
