Minister Mamie Nora Lee Artis Artis, age 89 of 400 Pike St., Wilson, NC., passed away Monday, July 15, 2013 at her residence.

Mamie Nora Lee Artis Artis was the daughter of the late John Eddie Artis, Sr., and Maggie Armena Clay Artis.

A celebration of her life will be held 2:00pm Sunday, July 21, 2013 at St. James Holy Church, 100 North Main Street, Stantonsburg, NC. Elder Samuel Blount will officiate. Interment will follow at Turner Swamp Cemetery, Wayne County.

In 1943, she met and married the late Howard "Hart" Artis, to this union three children were born.

She received her formal education at Mincey School, Wilson County, NC.

At an early age, she joined the St. James Church were she was one of the St. James Cheerleaders for Jesus. She was faithful member of the church where she was a member of the Senior Choir for over 60 years, a member of the Union, and the YPHA. In 1965, she preached her initial sermon from St. John, Chapter 14.

Precious memories are shared by one son: Bishop Howard Artis (Dorothy) of Fremont, NC; two daughters: Shirely R. Howell of Wilson, NC, and Minister Pennie A. Diggs of the home; two sisters: Maggie Diamond and Avris White both of Wilson, NC; one brother: Larry Artis (Lillie) of Goldsboro, NC; seventeen grandchildren: Otis, Armena, Jeffery, Howard, Beverly, Samatha, Pamela, Gerald, Marsha, Michael, William, Corey, Phyllis, Teresa, Dwayne, Nicky, and Summer. 32 great-grandchildren, 13, great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
A public viewing will take place Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 1-5 pm at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 726 Tarboro St. SW., Wilson and with the family present that evening from 7-8pm at St. James Holy Church in Stantonsburg. All other times the family will receive friends at the residence where they will also assemble in preparation of the funeral procession.
