Mr. Kurtis Montrell "K-HYFEN" Jones, age 31, of 109 Douglas Street, Wilson, NC, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Wilson Medical Center.
A celebration of his life will be held 12:00 pm Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Greater First Baptist Church Orlando, 600 Factory St., Suffolk, Va.
The celebration continues 2:00pm Saturday, October 5, 2013 at L. N. Forbes Tabernacle, 1800 Lane St, Wilson, NC. Minister Freddie Williams will officiate. A final viewing will take place on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 from 1-7PM at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 726 Tarboro St SW, Wilson.
Kurtis was born August 3, 1982 in Portsmouth Va to Angela Jones. At an early age, he relocated to California and later returned to Suffolk where he attended Kings Fork High School, Secet Career Center and later received his diploma fro Job Corps.
K-Hyfen as he was also known, in his efforts and in his pursuit of a music career, was guided to Wilson, NC. He was an aspiring singer, song-writer and had signed with SMR LLC, in Wilson with a goal to make it big. Kurtis was introduced to the world on World Star Hip Hop, you tube and viewed by millions. He was under the management of Donta Chestnut. He wrote and help produce the album "Aim for the Heart" which contains the popular hit "Tears of Blood" that has been witnessed and heard throughtout the United States and abroad. Kurtis traveled and shared his music to many audiences in schools, churches, events, barber and beauty shops, in clubs and on the streets, when God gives you a message, he will give you the platform.
K-Hyfen became and will be remembered as a walking lyric witness to hard life, how we must trust GOD and not what life has presented us, but what we must present to life...in other words take a lemon and make lemonade.
Kurtis leaves to cherish his memory: his birth mother Angela Jones of Portsmouth, VA; Spiritual and Foster parents Morris and Melissa Jackson of Suffolk, VA; brothers and sisters, Rahkeem Jackson, Suffolk, VA; Ytreecia and Latwyla Jones of Portsmouth, VA; Spiritual brother Donta Chestnut, Wilson, NC; Spiritual mother Evangelist Wanda Short, Raleigh, NC; special friend Patricia Moye, a host of uncles, aunts, family and friends; brothers and sisters of the music industry.
The family will assemble at the funeral home one hour prior to the service in preperation of the funeral procession.
